Finding Our Ocean

Salinas, Coste de Oro, La Libertad

sunny 33 °C

One night we were watching International House Hunters and the episode location was based on Salinas, Ecuador. We have been to Hawaii 3 times previously and wanted to go someplace new. Someplace where we could actually afford to buy a ocean front home. So over the next year we searched the internet on Ecuador. There were numerous stories and articles but the general consensus was that a couple could retire on a pension. Randy was 63 at the time of our first planning and I turned 48. He was 2 years to retirement. It would be 18 years before I could collect any pension so we were on a scouting mission as we would be relying on his income only and the savings we had.

So in April 2012 we booked our trip and off we went. We were going to keep any open mind. This was a vacation trip but also partly a house hunting trip to see if there was a property suitable for wants and wishes.

Our first week was spent getting familiar, taking it easy, and working on a tan.
